What does the day look like?
Around 55% of your working time is demanding physical labor: inspecting roof pitch, mounting Unirac, IronRidge, or K2 Systems rails, carrying 18 kg to 25 kg solar modules onto roofs 4 m to 15 m high, and securing them using torque wrenches and impact drivers.
Another 25% is spent routing DC cables, crimping MC4 connectors, and mounting string or microinverters (SolarEdge, Enphase, Huawei). The final 20% involves testing open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Isc) using Fluke or Megger multimeters, pairing monitoring apps, sealing roof penetrations, and clearing scaffolding. Standard shifts run 40 hours a week, typically from 07:00 to 15:30 to avoid midday roof heat, under direct exposure to freezing cold, strong winds, and roof temperatures exceeding 45 °C.
