What does the day look like?
You shoot high-volume products for web stores and marketplaces: apparel, cosmetics, electronics, footwear, jewelry. 15% of the day is sample prep: unboxing, steaming apparel, wiping reflective surfaces, lint-rolling fabrics, pinning garments on ghost mannequins or flat-lay boards. 25% is setup and capture: rigging continuous or strobe lights with softboxes, strip boxes, reflectors, diffusers, placing tripods or C-stands, setting tethered camera settings. 40% is files and post-production: ingesting RAW in Capture One or Adobe Lightroom, applying calibration profiles, clipping to pure white hex #FFFFFF, dust spotting, contrast, cropping to 1:1 or 4:5, exporting WebP or JPEG. 20% is logistics: tagging metadata, renaming by SKU barcode, uploading to DAM or Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, packing return samples, cleaning gear.
Tools are Canon EOS R5, Sony Alpha A7 IV, 90mm or 100mm f/2.8 macro lenses, Profoto, Godox, Broncolor strobes, X-Rite / Calibrite ColorChecker Passport, shooting tables, C-stands. Software is Capture One Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic, Helicon Focus. Standard shift is 09:00 to 18:00, Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day. Freelance catalog deadlines run to 10 hours per day. Night work and on-call shifts are virtually nonexistent. Work is standing on concrete floors, bending over low tables, then long screen hours. Only 25% is shooting, the rest is prep, files and computer work.
