What does the day look like?
There is no shift work — standard office hours, but you are on call around regulatory deadlines, incidents, or market events. Roughly 25–35% of the day is the part that looks glamorous: regulator meetings, board or audit-committee papers, enforcement response. Another 40–50% goes to policies, monitoring design, staff leadership, and remediation projects. The remaining 15–25% is internal coordination, staff training, and ad-hoc advice to business lines.
Day-to-day work includes maintaining the compliance framework and policies, tracking regulatory change, running internal reviews, preparing reports for the board and regulators, delivering staff training, and managing regulatory correspondence. Tools named in profiles include Microsoft Office; GRC platforms such as Actimize, MetricStream, and Archer; transaction monitoring and KYC systems in banks; and in the UK, FCA Connect / Gabriel for regulatory reporting.
