What does the day look like?
Your week is typically 36–38 hours, with an office day around 9am–5pm. Work centres on document production and proofreading, diary management, client onboarding, physical and digital filing, post, expense and billing support, court-form preparation, audio-typing from lawyer dictation, and travel booking — mostly in Microsoft Office. UK firms may train you on iManage (document management) and Aderant (practice management), but employers do not require that knowledge at hire.
Roughly 70–85% of the day is admin, production, filing and post; 10–20% is client contact and scheduling; 5–15% is light legal formatting or research — not running cases or giving legal advice. Shift or on-call work is rare except evening hours near deadlines.
