What does the day look like?
A Global Supply Chain Director manages international physical, financial, and digital supply flows. Around 50% of the working day is spent on cross-functional alignment, carrier contract negotiations, S&OP meetings, and global calls across European, American, and Asian time zones. Another 40% involves data analytics, inventory optimization modeling, compliance audits, and budget governance using systems like SAP S/4HANA or Oracle Transportation Management. Only 10% is physical crisis management and troubleshooting unexpected supply bottlenecks.
The role operates in a standard corporate or hybrid office environment. However, because global supply networks function 24/7 across multiple time zones, urgent escalations such as customs holds or component shortages require evening and early-morning intervention.
