What does the day look like?
Your working time is split across several core responsibilities: 15% goes to talent discovery (monitoring streaming spikes via Chartmetric, Soundcharts, Spotify for Artists, Apple Music for Artists, Mediabase, Luminate, and attending gigs), 30% to creative project oversight (curating songs, pairing artists with topliners and mixing engineers, reviewing demos in Apple Logic Pro, Avid Pro Tools, or Ableton Live, and studio tracking). Commercial deal structuring and contract negotiations take 25%, release strategy across digital marketing and DSP playlisting takes 20%, and administrative budget approvals take 10%.
The schedule is irregular, combining daytime office hours (10:00 to 18:00) for label meetings and budgeting with 3 to 5 nights per week (20:00 to 02:00) attending live showcases, listening parties, and late-night recording sessions. While outsiders often imagine the job is 90% hanging out in the studio with stars, creative listening and studio presence make up roughly 30% of the role; the remaining 70% consists of contractual deal-making, budget justifications, spreadsheets, and corporate label administration.
