What does the day look like?
The day starts at 08:30 to 10:00 with music theory, ear training (solfège), and harmonic analysis. From 10:15 to 12:30, students practise individual instrument or vocal technique in sound-isolated rooms. Afternoons continue from 13:30 to 15:30 with ensemble rehearsals or orchestral sectionals, followed by studio recording and audio production labs from 15:45 to 18:00. Practical work uses DAWs like Avid Pro Tools, Apple Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase, analogue consoles from Solid State Logic (SSL) and Neve, Universal Audio Apollo interfaces, microphones such as Shure SM57, Shure SM7B, Neumann U87, AKG C414, and notation tools like Avid Sibelius, MakeMusic Finale, and Dorico. Evenings from 18:30 to 21:00 involve further practice or collaborative student gigs.
Teenagers often imagine that 80% of the time is spent recording hit songs and jamming with famous artists. In reality, creative studio performance accounts for 20% of the day. The remaining 80% consists of repetitive scale drills, solfège pitch exercises, acoustics physics lectures, signal routing troubleshooting, music history essays, and manual cable coiling. Facilities run from 07:00 to 24:00, and overnight tracking sessions push total commitments to 50 to 60 hours per week.
