What does the day look like?
You work 38 to 40 hours per week, usually 09:00 to 17:00 or 08:30 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. There is no shift work, on-call work, or night work in this occupation. Overtime happens only around statutory deadline peaks, such as end-of-quarter renewals or PCT 30-month national phase entry deadlines.
Your day is logging official notices from the USPTO, EPO, WIPO (PCT), JPO, or DPMA into Anaqua, CPA Global (Clarivate / FoundationIP), Lecorpio, Dennemeyer DIAMS, AppColl, or Equinox, calculating deadlines through WIPO ePCT, USPTO Patent Center, and EPO MyEPO Portfolio, collecting invention disclosure forms from R&D engineers, chasing signatures on assignments, declarations, and powers of attorney, instructing foreign patent firms, checking their invoices against fee schedules, and handling documents and billing in DocuSign, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and SAP ERP. About 15% of the day is inventor meetings and prototypes, and 85% is database entry, date checks, signature chasing, and reminder emails.
