What does the day look like?
Only 10% of your day involves physically checking finished products on the factory floor. About 40% is spent maintaining Quality Management System (QMS) documentation, preparing for audits, and investigating defect root causes using engineering methods like 8D, 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, and FMEA. Another 25% goes to meetings, resolving customer complaints, and supplier audits, while the remaining 25% is dedicated to statistical data analysis (SPC, Cpk) using tools like Minitab, Power BI, or SAP ERP.
The standard schedule is 40 hours per week (typically 08:00 to 17:00). Shift work is rare for managers, but you must be on call during plant crises such as production line stoppages or defective batch recalls.
