What does the day look like?
Your day is mostly office, spreadsheets and meetings. Hours are 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. There is also on-call cover: 1 week in every 4 to 6 weeks you answer out-of-hours emergencies — police welfare checks, emergency protection orders, mental health detentions and facility crises.
You directly supervise 3 to 6 Team Managers, and through them lead 30 to 100 social workers, care coordinators and support workers. You manage a budget from GBP 1,000,000 to GBP 15,000,000, audit commissioning contracts, monitor third-party care providers, prepare evidence for inspectors such as CQC, Heimaufsicht / MDK, HIQA or the NDIS Commission, run disciplinary hearings and meet police and health trusts. Systems: Liquidlogic LAS / LCS, Access Care and Clinical Mosaic, CareFirst, Eclipse, Allocate HealthRoster, SAP ERP, Oracle Fusion and Datix.
About 10% of the day is direct client contact — only complex appeals, high-risk safeguarding cases and tribunals. 90% is management and administration.
