What does the day look like?
Your day is mostly screen work: checking references, researching terminology, building and maintaining glossaries, preparing files for translation, cleaning desktop publishing layouts, comparing versions, proofreading against the source. At the United Nations you work in eLUNa, gDoc and UNTERM; outside it the same tasks use SDL Trados Studio, memoQ, Memsource and standard office and PDF tools. Booth interpreting is almost absent at aide level — the glamorous part is a tiny share of the day. During sitting weeks you add committee support in short bursts: seating lists, nameplates, collecting statements, escorting delegates to the booth. Hours follow the conference calendar, with long sitting days, evening and night work when bodies sit late, weekend shifts in peak sessions and on-call cover for urgent documents.
