What does the day look like?
A BIM Coordinator does not spend the day creatively designing buildings. The core work is bringing architecture, structural, and MEP models together in Autodesk Navisworks Manage, Solibri Office, or Autodesk Construction Cloud; checking whether pipes pass through beams, equipment has enough maintenance clearance, and 4D construction stages collide. Real problems are then logged in BIMcollab, Revizto, or Procore and assigned to the right engineer.
A typical day is about 15% 3D model investigation in Revit, Archicad, or Tekla; 35% clash federation, filtering, and issue logging; 30% coordination meetings, RFIs, and project-manager communication; and 20% BEP compliance, LOD 200-400 checks, IFC parameters, file exchange, and CDE management. Original design is 0% of the job. Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with no night shifts. During tender release or pre-construction sign-off, overtime can rise to 45-55 hours per week.
