What does the day look like?
This is not a university studio job. A Part 2 Architectural Assistant is normally a full-time office role after finishing the Part 2 master degree. A usual day runs from 09:00 to 17:30 or 18:00, with 37.5 to 40 hours per week. Overtime and weekend work are common near submissions and competitions, often unpaid in private practice. There is no formal shift work, night shift, or routine on-call duty.
About 15% of the day is the glamorous part: creative concept sketching and early design. Around 70% is BIM modelling, detailed floor plans, construction detailing, sheet updates, planning documentation, and clash resolution using Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft Archicad, Rhino 3D, Grasshopper, SketchUp, and AutoCAD. The remaining 15% is team meetings, client presentations, NBS Chorus specifications, Bluebeam Revu markups, site visits, punch-lists, and material boards. The visible design work exists, but most of the day is technical production and coordination.
