What does the day look like?
A Project Architect day is not just drawing beautiful buildings. You review construction drawing packages in Revit, Archicad, AutoCAD or Vectorworks, write specifications in NBS Chorus, and solve BIM clashes in Navisworks, Revizto, Solibri or Autodesk Construction Cloud. You chair coordination meetings with structural, civil and MEP engineers, and check door, window and finishes schedules.
The glamorous sketching and concept part is only 10% to 15% of the day. The rest is technical: 40% to 45% on BIM, detailing and specifications; 25% to 30% on consultants, clients, planning meetings and email; 15% to 20% on site inspections, contractor meetings and contract paperwork. Hours are usually Monday to Friday, 40 to 45 hours per week. There is no shift or night work, but planning submissions, tender packages and client presentations often create evening overtime.
