What does the day look like?
Your day is primarily office-based, analytical, and centered on regulatory compliance. You do not fly aircraft or conduct airport passenger screening. You ingest mandatory occurrence reports (MOR) from pilots, cabin crew, and dispatchers, classifying them in ECCAIRS 2 under ICAO / ADREP standards. You validate flight data recorder exceedances using software such as Teledyne Controls AirFASE or GE Aerospace FlightPulse, update hazard logs using BowTieXP, and track Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs). You also perform compliance audits against EASA Part-ORO.GEN.200, FAA 14 CFR Part 5, and IOSA standards, preparing briefings for the Safety Review Board.
Roughly 95% of the role is auditing compliance spreadsheets, verifying telemetry, following up on corrective action plans, and entering data into safety platforms like Coruson or AQD. Only about 5% involves physical inspection on airfields or test runs. Working hours are typically 37.5 to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 09:00 to 17:00. However, officers rotate on an on-call emergency response roster (typically 1 week per month), requiring 24/7 readiness to respond immediately if an accident or serious incident occurs.
