What does the day look like?
You run the academy nutrition programme and education syllabus for groups from U8 to U18 plus U21 and transition and loan players. You see players 1 to 1, set fuelling, hydration, recovery, injury rehabilitation and body composition plans, agree training day and match day menus plus travel menus and hotel briefings with chefs, monitor growth and maturation, run workshops for parents, host families and coaches, sit in multi-disciplinary team meetings, keep consultation records and track outcomes.
Your tools are Nutritics, MyFitnessPal professional use, ESHA Food Processor, Nutritionist Pro, NutriBase and FoodWorks, plus Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, skinfold calipers, bioelectrical impedance, DEXA, hydration testing with urine osmolality and sweat testing, and food safety and anti-doping systems under United Kingdom Anti-Doping Clean Sport. Pitch-side work with the squad is 20% to 30% of time on match days and training sessions. The rest is lessons, individual reviews, menu planning, data entry, monitoring, meetings and travel logistics. The post is full time across 5 days in 7, 35 hours per week, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, with national and international travel. Part time posts at 2 to 3 days per week exist, but lead posts are full time.
