What does the day look like?
You work 35 to 40 hours per week, usually Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:30 or 18:00. There are no night shifts and no on-call duty, with occasional overtime only during United Nations Human Rights Council sessions or donor summits.
About 10% of the day is observation: sitting as a silent observer while states speak, for example at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. 50% is desk research and documentation: monitoring news, reading state reports, drafting background briefs, summarising sessions, and transcribing interviews or panels. 40% is administrative and logistics support: scheduling meetings, managing contact databases, booking rooms, processing speaker expenses, proofreading grant proposals, and formatting slides. Tools are Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams), Google Workspace, Notion, Asana, Trello, Salesforce Non-Profit Cloud, Mailchimp, Airtable, Zoom Enterprise, and Webex.
