What does the day look like?
15% of the day is the visible part: committee hearings, ambassadorial debates and multilateral negotiations, where you sit with the secretariat, take notes and draft the meeting summary. 85% is desk work: formatting documents, fixing citations, cleaning Excel contact lists, writing background notes, compiling press clippings, badges and logistics.
You work in ODS / documents.un.org, Inspira / inspira.un.org, SharePoint, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with programme tracking in Trello, Asana or Jira. The week is 35 to 40 hours, usually 09:00 to 17:30 or 08:30 to 17:00, Monday through Friday. There are no night shifts, but hours run longer around the General Assembly in New York every September and the World Health Assembly in Geneva every May.
