What does the day look like?
At head level you are not sketching all day — the job is project and people management with final design sign-off. Daily work means consulting clients, developing layouts, selecting materials and FF&E, coordinating contractors, architects and engineers, checking codes and regulations, and preparing drawings and specifications.
Roughly 25–35% of the day goes to creative concepts and presentations, 25–30% to technical documents and procurement, 25–35% to meetings and email, and 15–25% to team supervision and scheduling. AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp Pro and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) are everyday tools. O*NET reports 52% work more than 40 hours a week. There is no routine night or on-call work; occasional site visits happen within normal hours. You typically run several projects at once from the centre.
