What does the day look like?
Most of your day goes to client and budget meetings, pitch presentations, and team leadership — roughly 40–50%. Another 30–40% is P&L, resource allocation, workflow, and admin: systems like ClickUp, Asana, and Harvest, plus reviewing work in Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma (you are not always the one drawing). Hands-on concept and visual direction is the smaller slice — about 10–20%. You also handle new-business development, contract scope, and brand standards enforcement.
O*NET reports that 62% of art directors work more than 40 hours a week, with time pressure daily. Face-to-face contact and email are daily too. There is no shift work or on-call duty, but deadline crunch is common.
