What does the day look like?
You work standard office hours; shift work or on-call duty is not a legal requirement, but late nights near deadlines are common. Your day includes defining motion systems and brand motion language, running pipelines (templates, workflows) in tools like After Effects and Cinema 4D, and hands-on animation on flagship projects. You brief and QA freelancers and external studios, run internal critiques, present to clients, and mentor motion designers.
As postings from employers like Stereo, Nen, and DEPT describe, you also plan work, allocate resources, and align delivery schedules with producers. At executive level (e.g. DEPT's Executive Director role), P&L and hiring weigh more than pushing frames yourself. Named tools in ads include Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Cinema 4D (+ Redshift), Figma, and sometimes Blender or generative video tools.
