What does the day look like?
The nominal schedule is a 40-hour office week, but you carry perpetual 24/7 on-call responsibility. Your daily time is split: 25% on regulatory, safety, and environmental audits (OSHA, EPA), 25% on budgeting, fuel logistics (gas nominations, coal, reservoir levels), and commercial power purchase agreements (PPA), 20% on maintenance outages and contractor oversight, 15% on workforce leadership and safety meetings, and 15% on real-time emergency dispatch and plant trip reviews.
You work with SCADA and DCS platforms such as Siemens SPPA-T3000, ABB Ability Symphony Plus, Emerson Ovation, and GE Mark VIe, alongside SAP Plant Maintenance, IBM Maximo, and AVEVA PI System. The physical environment involves high turbine noise, thermal extremes, high-voltage switchyards, and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) permit areas. When a turbine trips or a grid surge occurs, you must report to the site immediately regardless of the hour.
