What does the day look like?
An Energy Director does not spend the day watching turbines spin on site. The bulk of the schedule is executive office work: 30% goes to investor and Board of Directors meetings, 25% to financial modeling, risk audits, and budget allocations, 20% to regulatory tariff hearings and contract negotiations, and 15% to cross-functional team management and hiring. Technical simulations and control room oversight account for only about 10% of real time.
Daily operations rely on SAP S/4HANA (IS-U), Oracle NetSuite, ETRM platforms (OpenLink Endur, FIS Aligne, Allegro), and SCADA systems (Siemens Spectrum Power, ABB Ability, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Power). The workweek typically runs 50 to 60 hours, with 24/7 executive escalation on-call duties for major grid failures or critical supply interruptions.
