What does the day look like?
Your day is running a brand campaign, not just taking pictures. 20% to 25% of the time you are on set framing shots, operating the camera and calling the shot. 35% to 40% is pre-production: you pitch visual treatments, build mood boards, scout locations, write risk assessments and hire digital techs, gaffers, assistants, stylists and set builders. 20% to 25% is technical supervision and post-production: you check the tethered Capture One Pro workflow, control color profiles, manage retouchers and approve 16-bit TIFF / raw grades. 15% is commercial work: licensing rights, buyout negotiation, budgets, call sheets, equipment insurance and client reviews.
You work with Phase One IQ4 150MP, Hasselblad H6D/X2D, Canon EOS R5 Mark II, Sony A1 / FX9, Arri Alexa Mini LF, Profoto Pro-11 2400 AirTTL packs, Broncolor Scoro, Briese reflectors, Aputure / Nanlite LEDs, Matthews / Kupo grip, Capture One Pro, Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Lightroom Classic, DaVinci Resolve Studio, ShotPut Pro and Frame.io. Call times often start at 04:30, set days run 10 to 14 hours without a break, night and weekend shoots are normal, and campaign blocks mean weeks living in trailers or hotels across time zones.
