What does the day look like?
An ERP developer writes and customizes software that connects all business operations — finance, inventory, sales, and human resources — using platforms like SAP, 1C, Oracle, or NetSuite. About 35% of the working day is spent writing and debugging code in specialized languages (such as ABAP, the 1C platform scripting language, SuiteScript, or PL/SQL) to build custom reports and business logic. Another 25% goes to resolving user tickets and correcting failed database transactions, 20% to gathering technical requirements from accountants or functional consultants, and the remaining 20% to maintaining and testing API integrations with banks, barcode scanners, and e-invoicing systems.
Work follows a standard 40-hour office week, typically Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00. Shift work is rare, but weekend or after-hours work occurs during ERP version upgrades, fiscal year-end closings, and system go-live migrations.
Will AI replace this job?
ILO/NASK 2025 global index: ISCO-08 2512 Software Developers are in Gradient 3, meaning an average task-exposure score from 0.5 to below 0.6 on a 0 to 1 scale. This index measures task exposure, meaning whether generative AI can technically do parts of the work, not the chance that the whole job disappears.
In the day described above, routine ABAP, 1C scripting, SuiteScript and PL/SQL coding, standard forms, print layouts and financial reports, plus boilerplate API and query work are on the more exposed side. Requirements gathering with functional consultants and accountants, diagnosing failed live transactions and correcting production data, and being accountable for testing and deployment during upgrades and fiscal closes are on the less-exposed side because they require negotiation, responsibility and unstructured judgement. OECD publishes no 4-digit automation-risk figure for this unit group. WEF 2025 ranks Software and Applications Developers 4th among the fastest-growing roles in percentage terms to 2030; that is a hiring-expectations ranking, not a technical exposure score.
What do you need to start?
ERP development is an unregulated profession, meaning no statutory license or state chamber registration is legally required to write code. In Uzbekistan and CIS markets, self-taught programmers can enter the 1C field with vendor certifications like "1C:Professional" or "1C:Specialist" from 1C Company. In enterprise SAP environments, credentials like SAP SE's "SAP Certified Associate - Back-End Developer - ABAP Cloud" or "SAP Certified Associate - Integration Developer" provide strong technical validation.
However, migrating to Western countries (such as Germany, Poland, the UK, or the US) on skilled worker visas or the EU Blue Card strictly requires an accredited Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Business Information Systems, or Information Technology.
Where do you study, and for how long?
In Uzbekistan, preparation begins with general computing degrees. Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) offers 4-year Bachelor programmes in Software Engineering or Information Systems and Technologies with annual tuition between UZS 7,400,000 and UZS 9,129,930. Inha University in Tashkent (IUT) offers Computer Science and Software Engineering (4 years) at UZS 32,000,000 per year. Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent (TTPU) teaches Software Engineering (4 years) for UZS 28,500,000 annually. Authorized 1C Training Centres in Tashkent also provide 1- to 2-month platform configuration courses.
Abroad, leading institutions include: In Germany, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) offers a 3-year Bachelor in Information Systems (Wirtschaftsinformatik) in German, costing EUR 4,000 to EUR 6,000 per year for non-EU students. Reutlingen University offers a 3.5-year Business Informatics degree in German/English for EUR 3,000 per year. In Poland, Warsaw University of Technology provides an English-taught 3.5 to 4-year BSc in Computer Science for EUR 3,500 to EUR 4,500 annually.
In the UK, Sheffield Hallam University operates a designated SAP Academic Centre and offers a 3-year BSc (Hons) in Computer Science / Business Information Systems for GBP 16,650 to GBP 17,200 per year. In the US, the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) teaches a 4-year BS in Information Technology and Systems with integrated SAP curricula, costing USD 39,000 to USD 44,000 per year for international students.
For visa qualification recognition, an Uzbek degree requires a Statement of Comparability from ZAB in Germany (EUR 208), an ECCTIS assessment in the UK (GBP 210 to GBP 250), or a NACES evaluation like WES in the US (USD 170 to USD 250). Educational documents must receive an Apostille via my.gov.uz.
Where can you actually work?
In Uzbekistan, the domestic market is heavily centered on 1C:Enterprise across retail chains like Korzinka and Makro, distribution, and accounting firms. Large industrial enterprises such as Navoi Mining, Almalyk Mining, and Uzbekneftegaz utilize SAP S/4HANA or Oracle ERP. Remote work from Uzbekistan is highly accessible for Russian-speaking 1C markets (Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus) via outstaffing agencies. However, entry-level remote roles for Western SAP or Oracle systems are limited due to corporate data residency laws and required timezone overlap.
Relocation is most viable to Germany (which has an EU Blue Card shortage salary threshold of EUR 41,041.80 annually), Poland, and the United Kingdom. Destinations like Japan and South Korea are far less accessible because ERP systems require near-native fluency in domestic business languages and local corporate regulations.
Where are the jobs posted?
In Uzbekistan, vacancies for 1C developers and ERP consultants are primarily posted on hh.uz and the Ministry of Employment portal ish.mehnat.uz. These platforms are fully open to local applicants.
For international roles, German vacancies appear on the Federal Employment Agency site arbeitsagentur.de, as well as stepstone.de and germantechjobs.de. Polish opportunities are listed on pracuj.pl, while global enterprise openings can be found on jobs.sap.com, linkedin.com, and indeed.com. However, Western job boards rarely sponsor visas for entry-level candidates applying directly from abroad without a local degree or existing work authorization.
How much English, honestly?
University admission gates vary by country: English-taught engineering degrees require IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 75–80 in Poland, IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 in the UK, and TOEFL iBT 80–90 or IELTS 6.5 in the US. In Germany, German-medium degrees require TestDaF (minimum 4x4) or Goethe-Zertifikat C1, while English programmes require IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90.
On the job, language needs depend entirely on the platform. Domestic 1C bookkeeping support can function without English, but international enterprise systems (SAP S/4HANA, NetSuite, Oracle) run entirely on English documentation and APIs, demanding at least an IELTS 6.5 level of proficiency. Furthermore, working on ERP projects inside Germany or France requires B2/C1 fluency in the local language to read accounting regulations and communicate with business consultants.
