What does the day look like?
A standard work week is 40 hours, typically Monday through Friday from 09:00 to 18:00. Writing new code takes up only 35% to 45% of your time. On the frontend, you build user interfaces with TypeScript, React, Next.js, Vue.js, or Angular, while on the backend, you design RESTful APIs and server routes using Node.js/Express, Python (FastAPI/Django), Go, Java (Spring Boot), or C# (.NET Core).
The rest of the week is spent on less visible tasks: 20% to 25% on reading legacy code and debugging, 15% to 20% on team standups and code reviews via Git, GitHub, or GitLab, and 10% to 15% on technical documentation and architecture planning. You also manage database queries in PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or MongoDB and containerize environments with Docker. Product teams run on-call rotations where engineers carry pagers (PagerDuty/Opsgenie) to resolve critical production outages outside core working hours.
Will AI replace this job?
ILO 2025 exposure index: 0.53, gradient 3. This is the mean task-exposure score for ISCO-08 2512 Software Developers on a 0.00-to-1.00 scale; ISCO-08 2513 Web and Multimedia Developers scores 0.60. These figures measure task exposure, not job elimination.
The exposed part is routine feature coding, boilerplate Next.js components, boilerplate CRUD routes in Express or FastAPI, unit test generation, SQL schema translation, and parsing old code syntax; that is roughly 35% to 45% of the week. The part not exposed to autonomous completion is architecture design, technical debt trade-offs, cross-system observability and distributed debugging, live production incident response during Sev-1 outages, and aligning business requirements through standups and pull request reviews. OECD 2023 places software professionals in the top decile of cognitive task exposure, but at low risk of outright job destruction because the core tasks show high complementarity rather than substitution. WEF 2023 ranks software and application developers among the top net job-growth roles worldwide, with 68% of surveyed employers reporting expanding demand driven by digital transformation.
What do you need to start?
There is no legal license or statutory degree required to practice as a full-stack developer in private industry across North America, Europe, or Central Asia. Hiring is skills-driven and portfolio-based: employers evaluate candidates through public GitHub repositories, technical take-home assignments, and live system design or coding interviews covering data structures and algorithms.
A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Systems is typical and serves as a screening filter at large enterprises and for immigration visa sponsorship. For self-taught candidates and bootcamp graduates, 2 to 3 years of verifiable professional experience and production applications can substitute for a degree at startups and SMEs. Cloud certifications, such as AWS Certified Developer - Associate or Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer, validate cloud skills but do not legally replace a degree for work visas.
Where do you study, and for how long?
In Uzbekistan, several universities offer software engineering degrees. Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) offers a 4-year Bachelor in Software Engineering with an annual daytime tuition of UZS 8,150,000. Inha University in Tashkent (IUT) teaches Computer and Software Engineering in English over 4 years at UZS 40,400,000 per year. Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) provides a 4-year BSc (Hons) in Business Information Systems / Computing for UZS 33,264,000 per year. Amity University in Tashkent offers a 4-year B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering taught in English for UZS 31,185,000 per year.
Abroad, Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany offers a 3-year B.Sc. in Informatics primarily in German, charging non-EU students EUR 8,000 to EUR 12,000 per year. Warsaw University of Technology in Poland delivers an English-taught B.Sc. in Computer Science over 3.5 years for EUR 4,500 per academic year. In the United States, San Jose State University (SJSU) offers a 4-year B.S. in Software Engineering / Computer Science at USD 19,400 per year in non-resident tuition. In the United Kingdom, the University of Manchester provides a 3-year BSc Computer Science for GBP 34,500 per year for international students.
To recognize an Uzbek degree abroad, Germany requires a Statement of Comparability from ZAB for EUR 208 for the EU Blue Card. The United States requires a credential evaluation (WES or ECE) costing USD 170 to USD 250 for H-1B filings, and the UK requires a UK ENIC statement for GBP 50 plus VAT.
Where can you actually work?
Full-stack development is well established in Uzbekistan. Local employers include outsourcing firms like EPAM Systems Uzbekistan and Exadel, fintech and consumer companies such as Uzum Group, Payme, Click, and TBC Bank Uzbekistan, and regional agencies. Employees at IT Park Uzbekistan resident companies benefit from a reduced personal income tax rate of 7.5% instead of the standard 12%.
Remote work for foreign employers from Uzbekistan is fully viable. International firms hire Uzbek engineers via direct B2B service contracts using sole proprietorship (YTT) or self-employed tax status, or through Employer of Record (EOR) platforms such as Deel, Remote.com, and OysterHR, with payments wired via SWIFT to local USD bank accounts (e.g., Ipak Yoli Bank, Kapitalbank). For relocation, Germany (where the IT EU Blue Card salary threshold is EUR 41,041.80 gross per year) and Poland are accessible paths. Japan and South Korea require advanced local language fluency (JLPT N2/N1 or TOPIK 4+), and Switzerland maintains strict non-EU work permit quotas.
Where are the jobs posted?
Global remote jobs and freelance contracts open to applicants from Uzbekistan are listed on platforms like Upwork, Wellfound (startups offering worldwide remote roles), RemoteOK, and We Work Remotely.
For domestic positions in Uzbekistan, vacancies are published on HeadHunter Uzbekistan (hh.uz) and local Telegram channels such as @devs_uz and @tashkent_python. To find positions in specific target destinations that offer relocation or require local work authorization, use StepStone Germany (stepstone.de) and Honeypot.io for Germany, Reed.co.uk and Otta (otta.com) for the United Kingdom, and Built In (builtin.com) along with LinkedIn Jobs for the United States.
How much English, honestly?
University entry requirements depend entirely on the study destination. Warsaw University of Technology in Poland requires IELTS Academic 6.0 or CEFR B2. In the US, SJSU requires TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS Academic 6.5, while the University of Manchester in the UK demands IELTS Academic 7.0 (minimum 6.5 in all sub-scores). In Germany, TUM requires German proficiency (TestDaF 4 or DSH-2) for its German track, while English tracks accept IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 88.
On the job, working for international and remote tech firms requires daily professional English at CEFR B2 to C1 level. Developers must conduct daily agile sprint meetings, write clear technical documentation, and collaborate on pull requests asynchronously. English fluency enables moving from local domestic roles to international remote contracts, increasing baseline monthly compensation by 2x to 4x.
