What does the day look like?
A frontend developer builds the visual, client-side interface of websites and web applications. Daily tasks involve writing markup, stylesheets, and logic using HTML5, modern CSS (Flexbox, Grid, Tailwind CSS), and JavaScript or TypeScript. Developers structure component-based applications using frameworks like React, Next.js, Vue.js, or Angular, connect to backend RESTful and GraphQL APIs, manage state with Redux Toolkit or Zustand, and debug interfaces using Chrome DevTools or test suites like Jest and Cypress.
Out of a standard 40-hour work week, only 25 to 35 percent of the time goes toward writing new visual components and features. Around 25 to 30 percent is spent troubleshooting layout defects, resolving edge cases, and fixing cross-browser bugs. Another 15 to 20 percent is dedicated to code reviews, testing, and build configuration, while the remaining 15 to 20 percent involves Agile meetings and coordinating with designers and product managers. Standard hours follow a daytime schedule, though remote work for overseas teams may require adjusting to foreign time zones.
Will AI replace this job?
ILO 2025 exposure index: 0.60, Gradient 4. The ILO score is for ISCO-08 2513 Web and Multimedia Developers, on a 0.00 to 1.00 technical exposure scale. This is a task-exposure measure, not a job-elimination forecast; the dossier says the occupation is heavily augmentation-oriented rather than fully substitutable.
The exposed part of the day is the more bounded coding work: writing HTML markup, responsive CSS or Tailwind rules, React, Next.js and Vue component templates, routine CRUD query logic, unit test boilerplate, and syntactic refactoring. The lower-exposure part is end-to-end client-server state architecture, debugging across systems, negotiating API contracts, profiling performance across browser runtimes, handling security and authentication, checking WCAG accessibility, and turning unclear product and design requirements into working interface logic. The indices therefore point to AI taking over more than half of raw coding and layout-authoring hours, while the role shifts toward code review, architecture validation, integration verification, and interface orchestration rather than headcount elimination.
What do you need to start?
There is no legal licensing or mandatory statutory qualification required to work as a frontend developer anywhere in the world. Commercial tech employers make hiring decisions based on demonstrable practical ability rather than formal credentials.
To secure an entry-level position, you need a portfolio of live, deployed applications and public Git repositories showing readable code, clean architecture, and working API connections. Professional credentials such as the Meta Front-End Developer Professional Certificate or AWS certifications serve only as supporting resume evidence, not hiring gates. A university degree is not legally required for employment, but a Bachelor's in Computer Science or Software Engineering is standard when applying for skilled worker visas such as the EU Blue Card or US H-1B.
Where do you study, and for how long?
In Uzbekistan, several universities offer 4-year undergraduate degrees in software fields: Inha University in Tashkent offers Computer Science and Engineering in English for UZS 32,000,000 per year; TUIT offers Software Engineering in Uzbek and Russian at a base rate of UZS 7,400,000 per year; WIUT teaches Business Information Systems / Applied IT in English for UZS 33,264,000 per year; Amity University Tashkent charges UZS 30,000,000 per year for B.Tech in CSE; and Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent charges UZS 28,500,000 per year for Information Technologies.
Abroad, Warsaw University of Technology in Poland offers an English-taught 3.5 to 4-year BSc in Computer Science for EUR 3,500 to EUR 4,500 per year. Public universities in Germany offer 3-year Informatics degrees tuition-free (with semester fees of EUR 150 to EUR 400), though non-EU students pay EUR 1,500 per semester in Baden-Württemberg and EUR 2,000 to EUR 3,000 per semester at Technical University of Munich (TUM). In Malaysia, APU offers a 3-year English-taught degree in IT specializing in Web Application Development for USD 7,500 to USD 9,000 per year. Annual international tuition ranges from GBP 17,000 to GBP 34,500 in the UK, USD 32,000 to USD 36,000 at US public universities, and AED 58,000 to AED 65,000 at UOWD in Dubai.
For visa evaluation, an Uzbek degree must be assessed in Germany through ZAB for EUR 208, in the UK through Ecctis for GBP 210, or in the US through NACES agencies like WES for USD 150 to USD 240.
Where can you actually work?
In Uzbekistan, frontend developers work in domestic product ecosystems (Uzum Technologies, Payme, Click, Paynet), commercial banks (Kapitalbank, TBC Bank), and international software houses (EPAM Systems, Exadel, iTransition). Junior salaries range from UZS 4,000,000 to UZS 8,000,000 gross per month, while mid-level engineers earn UZS 12,000,000 to UZS 25,000,000. Employees of IT Park resident companies benefit from a reduced 7.5 percent personal income tax rate.
Working remotely from Uzbekistan for foreign employers is legally supported via B2B contracts or Employer of Record platforms. However, international companies hiring cross-border staff look almost exclusively for mid-level and senior engineers with 2 to 3 or more years of experience who can work autonomously. For direct relocation, Germany and Poland are viable destinations, supported by Germany's EU Blue Card threshold of EUR 41,041.80 per year for IT roles. Conversely, the UK is exceptionally difficult for junior developers due to its GBP 38,700 minimum salary threshold for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
Where are the jobs posted?
To find remote work from Uzbekistan, apply on international boards such as We Work Remotely (weworkremotely.com), Remote OK (remoteok.com), Arc.dev (arc.dev), and Turing (turing.com), or take freelance contracts on Upwork (upwork.com) and Freelancer (freelancer.com). Local and regional positions are listed on HeadHunter Uzbekistan (hh.uz), IT Park Jobs / Devs.uz (it-market.uz), Uzum Careers (jobs.uzum.uz), and EPAM Anywhere (anywhere.epam.com).
Country-specific job boards include StepStone (stepstone.de) and Honeypot.io in Germany; Just Join IT (justjoin.it) and No Fluff Jobs (nofluffjobs.com) in Poland; Reed (reed.co.uk), CWJobs (cwjobs.co.uk), and Otta (otta.com) in the UK; LinkedIn Jobs, Built In (builtin.com), and Wellfound (wellfound.com) in the US; and GulfTalent (gulftalent.com) and Bayt (bayt.com) in the UAE. Most local listings on these destination boards require existing legal work rights in that country unless the employer explicitly offers visa sponsorship.
How much English, honestly?
University entry requirements vary by country: UK institutions require IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 (or PTE 59 to 65); Polish universities ask for IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 75; US institutions require TOEFL iBT 80 to 90, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 110 to 120; and UAE universities require IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 79. In Germany, English-taught programmes require IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 88 to 92, whereas German-taught degrees require TestDaF 4x4, DSH-2, or Goethe C1.
On the job, language needs differ: a CEFR B1 level is sufficient for reading documentation and writing asynchronous task tickets, but CEFR B2 is necessary for live video stand-ups, technical interviews, and client sprint demos. US and UK teams require professional English (B2 to C1) for daily architectural discussions, while mid-sized regional German businesses require German B2 for day-to-day integration.
