What does the day look like?
You work a standard 38 to 40 hours per week. About 30% of your time goes into translating business needs into technical blueprints, API integration models, and data flows using tools like Draw.io, Lucidchart, Miro, or Enterprise Architect. Another 30% is spent in meetings leading architecture review boards and aligning non-technical executives with engineering leads. The rest of the day is spent writing Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), estimating infrastructure costs using AWS Pricing Calculator or Azure TCO, and reviewing Terraform, CloudFormation, or Kubernetes configurations.
While many imagine this job as uninterrupted solo coding, only 20% of your time is hands-on prototyping. The remaining 80% is spent communicating trade-offs, calculating budgets, and writing governance documentation. There are no regular shifts, but you serve as an escalation contact during catastrophic outages or cloud migration launch weekends.
Will AI replace this job?
ILO/NASK 2025 exposure index: ISCO-08 2511 Systems analysts scores 0.49, standard deviation 0.05, Exposure Gradient 2 (moderate exposure); ISCO-08 2519 Software and applications developers and analysts n.e.c. scores 0.55, standard deviation 0.16, Exposure Gradient 3 (high task transformation exposure). This measures task exposure, not whether the whole job disappears.
The exposed part is the work where AI can draft or calculate first versions: boilerplate Terraform and Kubernetes configuration, first drafts of Architecture Decision Records, summaries of API documentation, and initial cloud cost models. The less exposed or unexposed part is the work that needs authority and judgement: leading architecture review boards, aligning high-stakes stakeholders, mediating trade-offs between teams, legal and compliance evaluation, and Level 4 incident triage during catastrophic failures. OECD 2023 classifies this occupation group as low risk for net job displacement but highly exposed to AI-driven task reorganization. WEF 2025 reports software developers and systems analysts as growing job profiles through 2030, with net positive employer demand rather than job elimination.
What do you need to start?
Solution architecture is legally unregulated, meaning no government licence or state registration is required to practice. However, 75% to 85% of job openings require a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology. This is strictly a senior role requiring 5 to 10+ years of progressive software development or systems engineering experience.
Certifications do not replace real engineering experience, but they serve as critical filters for recruiters and enterprise tenders. Widely recognized credentials include AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (exam cost USD 150) and Professional (exam cost USD 300), Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-104 and AZ-305 exams at USD 165 each), Google Cloud Certified Professional Cloud Architect (USD 200), and TOGAF certification from The Open Group.
Where do you study, and for how long?
Direct undergraduate degrees titled 'Solution Architecture' do not exist anywhere in the world, including Uzbekistan. The career begins with a foundational computer science or software engineering degree. In Uzbekistan, Inha University in Tashkent offers a 4-year B.S. in Computer Science and Software Engineering at UZS 38,100,000 per year (2024–2025). Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent offers a 4-year B.Sc. in Software Engineering for UZS 28,500,000 per year. Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) offers 4-year engineering programmes with base tuition between UZS 7,400,000 and UZS 9,000,000 annually.
Abroad, Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany offers a 3-year B.Sc. in Informatics taught in German, charging EUR 4,000 to EUR 6,000 per year for non-EU students plus a EUR 97 semester fee. In the United Kingdom, the University of Manchester provides a 3-year B.Sc. in Computer Science taught in English at GBP 34,500 per year. In Poland, Warsaw University of Technology teaches an English-track 3.5-year B.Sc. in Computer Science for EUR 4,500 per year. In the United States, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) offers a 4-year B.S. in Computer Science with annual international tuition of USD 40,904.
Recognizing an Uzbek degree in Germany requires a ZAB Statement of Comparability costing EUR 200 (takes 1 to 3 months). In the UK, UK ENIC verification costs GBP 49.50 plus VAT (15 working days). In the US, credential evaluations via agencies like WES cost USD 170 to USD 245. Apostilling your diploma in Uzbekistan through my.gov.uz costs 20% of the Base Calculation Amount (around UZS 68,000 to UZS 75,000). No local board re-examinations are required.
Where can you actually work?
Solution architecture exists actively in Uzbekistan within commercial banks like TBC Bank Uzbekistan, Kapitalbank, and Ipak Yuli Bank, telecom operators such as Ucell and Beeline Uzbekistan (VEON), fintech ecosystems like Uzum, and IT outsourcing hubs like EPAM Uzbekistan. Senior local architects earn between UZS 25,000,000 and UZS 45,000,000 net per month.
Working remotely from Uzbekistan for foreign companies in the US, EU, or UAE on direct B2B contractor agreements is a realistic path, with pay ranging from USD 4,000 to USD 8,000 gross per month (USD 48,000 to USD 96,000 per year). Foreign employers demand at least 7 years of engineering experience, fluent English (C1), enterprise cloud certifications, and distributed systems expertise. Remote contractors typically register as Individual Entrepreneurs (YTT) or IT Park Uzbekistan residents, benefiting from reduced 4% turnover or 7.5% personal income tax rates. Moving abroad permanently requires meeting visa salary thresholds, such as GBP 38,700 for the UK Skilled Worker Visa or EUR 41,041.80 for the German EU Blue Card.
Where are the jobs posted?
Global and remote positions are primarily posted on LinkedIn Jobs (linkedin.com/jobs), Indeed (indeed.com), and Wellfound (wellfound.com). You can also apply directly through employer portals, including Amazon Web Services Careers (amazon.jobs)—the world's largest employer of solutions architects—as well as Microsoft Careers (careers.microsoft.com) and EPAM Systems Careers (epam.com/careers).
Country-specific job boards include StepStone.de (stepstone.de) and Xing (xing.com) in Germany; IT Jobs Watch (itjobswatch.co.uk) and Reed.co.uk (reed.co.uk) in the UK; and No Fluff Jobs (nofluffjobs.com) and Just Join IT (justjoin.it) in Poland. Remote B2B contractor openings are open to candidates applying directly from Uzbekistan without pre-existing foreign visas, whereas domestic UK and US corporate postings usually require local work authorization or employer sponsorship.
How much English, honestly?
University entry requirements depend on the destination. UK institutions require IELTS Academic 6.5 to 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 90 to 100. US universities like UIUC ask for TOEFL iBT 80 to 103 or IELTS Academic 7.5. Polish English-taught programmes accept IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 or Duolingo English Test (DET) 115+. In Germany, undergraduate degrees are taught in German requiring TestDaF level 4 or DSH-2, while English-taught Master's degrees require IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 88+.
In the workplace, professional fluency at CEFR C1 level is mandatory. The core of a Solution Architect's daily job involves debating trade-offs, leading enterprise workshops, and writing Architecture Decision Records. In domestic markets like Germany, France, or Japan, fluency in the local language at C1 level or JLPT N1/N2 is strictly required alongside fluent English.
