What does the day look like?
A Security Engineer or SOC Analyst monitors defensive infrastructure, investigates alerts, and responds to security incidents. About 50% of the day goes to alert triage and log analysis in SIEM and EDR tools like Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel, and CrowdStrike Falcon, confirming false positives and tracking threat indicators. Another 25% involves defensive engineering—configuring firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet), writing detection rules, and patching vulnerabilities. Documentation, incident reports, and Jira or ServiceNow ticketing take 15%. Only about 10% of the time involves active incident mitigation, such as isolating compromised hosts and blocking malicious IP addresses.
Tier 1 SOC Analysts typically work rotating 12-hour shifts covering 24/7 day and night schedules (such as 4 days on, 4 days off). Mid-to-senior engineers usually work standard 40-hour weeks but rotate on 24/7 on-call duty (for instance, one week per month) to handle critical escalations.
Will AI replace this job?
ILO's 2025 generative AI exposure framework gives ISCO-08 2529 Database and Network Professionals Not Elsewhere Classified an occupational exposure score of 0.49 on a 0-to-1 scale. This measures task exposure, not job elimination or a forecast that headcount will fall.
The exposed part is mainly the routine detection and parsing side of the day: first-pass alert triage, log checking, routine vulnerability-scan analysis, syntax checks, boilerplate firewall-rule drafting, baseline pattern correlation across telemetry, and preliminary incident summaries. The less exposed part is the human-led work: strategic security architecture, high-stakes incident-response decisions, adversarial threat hunting, business-impact evaluation, root-cause investigation across distributed networks, and organizational governance. OECD 2021 classifies technical ICT professional roles under ISCO major group 25 as low risk for direct displacement, with typical task-automation risk below 20%. WEF 2023 and WEF 2025 place Information Security Analysts among the fastest-growing job profiles worldwide.
What do you need to start?
Cybersecurity is an unregulated profession. There is no legal state license or government registration required simply to configure firewalls or analyze logs. However, corporate employers typically expect a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Information Technology. Practical technical skills and industry certifications can substitute for a degree for entry-level SOC roles.
Widely recognized entry-level credentials include CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA CySA+ (issued by CompTIA), Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Cybersecurity, and Blue Team Level 1 (BTL1, issued by Security Blue Team). If you plan to work abroad on a visa—such as the German EU Blue Card—an academic degree or at least 3 years of verifiable IT experience is mandatory.
Where do you study, and for how long?
In Uzbekistan, Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) offers a 4-year Bachelor's in "Axborot xavfsizligi" with state-regulated tuition starting around UZS 7,500,000 to UZS 9,000,000 per academic year. Inha University in Tashkent (IUT) provides a 4-year English-taught Computer and Information Engineering degree costing UZS 40,400,000 per year for Uzbek citizens (USD 4,000 for international students). Amity University Tashkent offers 4-year English-taught IT and Information Security tracks at UZS 30,000,000 to UZS 35,000,000 per year.
Abroad, Germany's Saarland University (Universität des Saarlandes) offers a 3-year, fully English-taught Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity with EUR 0 tuition (students pay only a semester fee of roughly EUR 300 to EUR 350). In the UK, Abertay University runs 4-year BSc (Hons) Ethical Hacking and BSc (Hons) Cybersecurity degrees at GBP 15,500 per year for international students. In Poland, Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska) offers a 3.5-year English-taught B.Sc. in Computer Science with a Cyber Security track for EUR 5,520 per semester (roughly EUR 11,040 per year). In the US, institutions like Dakota State University and George Mason University offer 4-year Cyber Operations degrees costing USD 13,000 to USD 38,000 per year in non-resident tuition.
Uzbek diplomas are apostilled via State Services Centers and my.gov.uz under the Hague Convention. Recognition in Germany is handled by ZAB for EUR 208 (taking 2 to 3 months). In the UK, UK ENIC issues a Statement of Comparability for GBP 49.50 plus VAT and postage. In Poland, NAWA evaluates diplomas through Kwalifikator for free, or via faculty nostrification costing up to PLN 3,600. No local re-examination is required.
Where can you actually work?
This role is actively established in Uzbekistan. Key domestic employers include commercial banks (SQB, Kapitalbank, Ipak Yo'li Bank, TBC Bank), telecom providers (Uztelecom, Beeline, Ucell), fintech firms (Payme, Click, Uzum), and the "Kiberxavfsizlik markazi" DUK. Local salaries range from UZS 7,500,000 to UZS 20,000,000 gross per month for junior-to-mid roles, and UZS 25,000,000 to UZS 40,000,000 for senior positions.
Entry-level remote work from Uzbekistan for foreign employers is practically non-existent due to strict data compliance (GDPR, PCI-DSS) and network access restrictions on non-resident connections. Remote opportunities with foreign companies become viable only after 2 to 4 years of proven enterprise or banking SOC experience, usually arranged via B2B contracts. For relocation, Germany (requiring at least EUR 43,759.80 for an IT EU Blue Card in 2025), the UK (minimum GBP 35,300 going rate for SOC 2135), and Poland are realistic destinations. Government and defense roles require domestic security clearances and are closed to non-citizens, leaving the private corporate sector as the main option.
Where are the jobs posted?
In Uzbekistan, vacancies are posted on HeadHunter Uzbekistan (hh.uz) and the national labor portal Ish.mehnat.uz.
Globally, specialized vacancies appear on CyberSecurityJobs.com, CyberSecJobs.com, We Work Remotely, and No Fluff Jobs (covering Poland and Central Europe with transparent salary bands and B2B contracts), which accept direct applications from abroad. LinkedIn Jobs is the primary worldwide channel. In contrast, platforms like Indeed UK and StepStone Germany generally require existing local work authorization unless an employer explicitly mentions visa sponsorship.
How much English, honestly?
University entry requirements are specific: Saarland University in Germany requires an IELTS Academic score of at least 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 72 (no German needed for admission); Abertay University in the UK requires IELTS 6.0 (no band below 5.5) or PTE 59; Warsaw University of Technology in Poland requires IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 87; US institutions typically require TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 110+.
Day-to-day work requires a solid CEFR B2 level (IELTS 6.5 equivalent). Technical vulnerability databases (CVE, NIST NVD), vendor documentation, and Sigma detection rules are published exclusively in English. Writing technical incident tickets, creating post-mortems, and conducting 15-minute shift handovers in international teams require fluent spoken and written technical English.
