What does the day look like?
About 40% of your day is spent handling tickets in platforms like Jira Service Management, ServiceNow, or Zendesk, which involves sorting user requests, resetting passwords, and unlocking accounts via Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory. Another 25% involves remote troubleshooting using TeamViewer, AnyDesk, or Microsoft Remote Desktop to fix Windows 10/11, macOS, Microsoft 365, and Outlook issues. The remaining time goes toward provisioning laptops using Microsoft Intune or Jamf, testing faulty RAM or SSDs, patching LAN cables, and documenting resolutions in ITIL runbooks.
Standard corporate positions require 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. However, 24/7 service desks in banks and multinational support hubs operate on 8-hour or 12-hour rotating shifts, including night shifts, weekends, and on-call rotations. Around 90% of your routine is customer-facing communication, guiding non-technical staff through basic setup, and meeting strict SLA response timers, rather than coding or stopping cyberattacks.
Will AI replace this job?
ILO / NASK Generative AI Occupational Exposure Index: 0.47, Gradient 2, on a 0-to-1 scale, ILO, 2025. This index measures task-level exposure and possible augmentation, not whether the whole job disappears. For ISCO-08 3512 Information and Communications Technology User Support Technicians, the published reading is substantial workflow change rather than direct employment destruction.
The exposed part is the routine, rules-based, text-heavy work: ticket triage, first queue routing, self-service password resets, standard software installation questions, and drafting templated troubleshooting replies. These are the parts increasingly handled autonomously by LLM-driven service bots. The less exposed part is the work that still needs hands, context, or human pressure handling: hardware diagnostics, physical peripherals and cabling, on-site desk-side escalations, complex multi-system debugging, and managing distressed or non-technical users during incidents. OECD 2018 gives an automation probability score of 0.65; in that framework, 0.50–0.70 means significant task change, while high displacement risk starts at > 0.70. WEF 2023 estimates AI exposure at 46.8% of core work activities, while employers project net employment stability or slight growth of +5% to +10% over 5 years. BLS 2023 projects 5% employment growth from 2022 to 2032.
What do you need to start?
There is no statutory legal licence or mandatory government registration required to work as an IT Support Specialist in any covered country. It is an unregulated profession.
Without a university degree, industry vendor certifications serve as the primary entry credentials. The global baseline is CompTIA A+ (Core 1 and Core 2 exams), which validates hardware, operating systems, and troubleshooting skills. Other respected entry qualifications include CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) Networking, and Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate (Exam MD-102) for managing corporate endpoints. The Google IT Support Professional Certificate also provides foundational competency.
Where do you study, and for how long?
In Uzbekistan, Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) offers a 4-year Bachelor in Computer Engineering with an annual base tuition of UZS 7,400,000. Inha University in Tashkent (IUT) teaches a 4-year English-medium CSE programme for UZS 32,000,000 per year, and Amity University Tashkent charges UZS 30,000,000 annually for its 3-year BSc IT. State vocational technical colleges offer 2-year state-funded computer systems technician training, while IT Park regional centres run 3 to 6-month system administration courses costing between UZS 1,500,000 and UZS 3,500,000.
Abroad, Warsaw University of Technology in Poland offers a 3.5-year English-taught BSc in Computer Science for EUR 4,500 per year. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) in Lithuania has a 4-year Bachelor of IT for EUR 3,800 annually. In Canada, Seneca Polytechnic delivers a 2-year Computer Systems Technician diploma for CAD 16,845 per year. In the UK, University of South Wales charges GBP 15,250 per year for its 3-year undergraduate IT degree. Germany provides a tuition-free (EUR 0) 3-year dual vocational apprenticeship (Ausbildung zum Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration) where trainees earn a gross monthly stipend of EUR 1,050 to EUR 1,250.
Foreign degree recognition costs EUR 208 through ZAB in Germany, GBP 49.50 (+ VAT) via UK ENIC in the UK, and USD 115 (or CAD 120) through WES for the US and Canada.
Where can you actually work?
Domestic demand in Uzbekistan is strong across commercial banks (Kapitalbank, Ipak Yuli, Hamkorbank, Agrobank), telecom operators (Ucell, Beeline, Uztelecom), retail chains (Korzinka, Makro), and government agencies. Monthly net salaries in Tashkent range from UZS 4,000,000 to UZS 8,000,000.
Direct remote employment for Western companies from Uzbekistan is rare due to GDPR data regulations, payroll restrictions, and language barriers. Remote work is mainly limited to BPO agencies or freelance platforms (Upwork, Fiverr) handling Tier 1 support for USD 8 to USD 15 per hour. Moving abroad directly on a work visa from Uzbekistan for Tier 1 support is not realistic, as entry-level salaries do not meet skilled-worker visa thresholds.
Where are the jobs posted?
In Uzbekistan, vacancies are listed on HeadHunter Uzbekistan (hh.uz), the official Ministry portal (ish.mehnat.uz), and corporate careers pages such as kapitalbank.uz. These are directly accessible to local applicants.
In Poland and Central Europe, jobs are posted on Pracuj.pl, No Fluff Jobs, and Just Join IT. German vacancies appear on StepStone Germany and Bundesagentur für Arbeit Jobbörse, while UK roles are listed on Reed UK and CWJobs. Global listings appear on LinkedIn Jobs and Support Driven Job Board. Applying on local European boards (Pracuj.pl, StepStone, Reed) strictly requires existing local work authorisation, such as a student visa or residency permit.
How much English, honestly?
For international university admissions in English-taught programmes, you need an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 (with no sub-band below 5.5), a TOEFL iBT of 78 to 80, or a PTE Academic of 54 to 58. German dual vocational training (Ausbildung) requires German proficiency at B1 or B2 (Goethe-Zertifikat / telc) rather than IELTS, and Japanese technical colleges require JLPT N2.
On the job, even within Uzbekistan, you need B2 English to read vendor documentation, understand system error logs, and navigate Microsoft or Cisco admin panels. In multinational shared services centres in Poland or the Baltics, English is the primary daily working language, whereas local corporate support requires fluency in the destination country's native language.
