What does the day look like?
The working day revolves around systems architecture blueprints, documentation, and technical alignment. Around 35% of the day goes to reviewing engineering solution designs, while 30% is spent on threat modelling and designing defensive architectures using tools such as Microsoft Threat Modeling Tool, IriusRisk, ArchiMate, Enterprise Architect, or draw.io. Another 20% covers governance, zero-trust policy blueprints under standards like NIST SP 800-207 or ISO/IEC 27001:2022, and auditing third-party software. The remaining 15% consists of consultation meetings with product managers and engineering leads.
There is 0% live hacking, penetration testing, or terminal-based intrusion tracking; those are operational security tasks. Standard hours are 38 to 40 hours per week. On-call work is rare and occurs only during catastrophic Tier-1 infrastructure breaches or major platform redesigns.
