What does the day look like?
A Logistics Director is an executive leader whose working baseline is 45 to 55 hours per week. Strategic network design, multi-million-euro 3PL contracts, and budget management take up 35% of the time, while executive reporting, S&OP meetings, and risk governance take 25%. Oversight of carriers and 3PL performance accounts for 20%, technology and automation rollouts take 15%, and direct crisis intervention (such as port strikes or customs disruptions) takes the remaining 5%.
Daily tools include SAP S/4HANA, Oracle Cloud SCM, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, Blue Yonder, Manhattan Associates WMS, Descartes Systems Group TMS, Llamasoft Supply Chain Guru, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense, and Excel. There are no manual night shifts, but 24/7 on-call availability is required during peak seasons or critical disruptions. Regular travel to distribution centres, hub ports, and headquarters takes 15% to 30% of total working time.
