What does the day look like?
Around 50% of your day is spent resolving operational emergencies and handling communications, including customs holds, delayed freight carriers, warehouse inventory discrepancies, and urgent customer delivery escalations. Another 25% goes to analyzing data in TMS and WMS systems, auditing carrier invoices, and adjusting routing parameters. The remaining hours are divided between shift briefings, warehouse staff scheduling, and network budget planning.
Daily tools include ERP platforms like SAP S/4HANA, Oracle NetSuite, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain, specialized warehouse management systems such as Manhattan Associates Active WM and Blue Yonder WMS, alongside Microsoft Excel and Power BI. The job is based in an office inside a warehouse or distribution center, split between desk analysis and the active warehouse floor. You must also be available on-call during off-hours, weekends, and peak holiday shipping surges.
