What does the day look like?
Your morning starts with email, budget spreadsheets and internal meetings — per the IPA role description you set agency culture and commercial strategy, and track EBITDA and operational KPIs with finance. Roughly 15–25% of the day goes to new-business pitches and senior client meetings, 30–40% to internal leadership, finance reviews and staffing, 20–30% to board or holding-company reporting, and 10–20% to industry events and public-facing work.
Day-to-day tools are email, presentation software (PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides) and spreadsheets for budgets and timelines. Where you still oversee a digital unit in a small office, job specs also name Google Ads, DV360, Meta, TikTok, Yandex and Google Analytics. Hands-on creative craft is no longer the core, but the IPA still expects you to champion and sell creative work on high-value pitches. The week typically runs longer than the 37–40 hours cited for account roles, especially around pitch deadlines; evenings for client entertainment or pitch prep are common. Shift work, nights and on-call duty are not typical except around campaign crises.
