What does the day look like?
As a creative director, your day starts with setting and defending the creative philosophy for an agency or in-house brand team. You lead pitches to clients — presenting campaigns yourself, not just approving them. You direct production of ads, TV commercials, social content, mailings, and digital experiences, and you manage creative teams of copywriters, art directors, designers, and producers: hiring, coaching, and reviewing their work. You act as brand guardian, liaise with account management, planners, clients, and film directors, and track media trends and advertising data.
Roughly 25–35% of the day is concepting, pitch rehearsals, and reviewing reels, scripts, and storyboards. The other 65–75% is meetings, team management, budget and timeline pressure, client revisions, production logistics, and internal politics. Daily tools include Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and presentation software for pitches. Shift work and night shifts are not typical; deadline crunches before pitches or shoots are.
