What does the day look like?
A Food and Beverage Supervisor runs the service floor in a hotel dining outlet, bar, or banquet hall. The shift begins with a pre-shift briefing covering VIP arrivals, daily specials, the 86-list (out-of-stock items), and food allergy alerts. Daily responsibilities include assigning floor sections, inspecting table settings and glassware polish, handling guest complaints during peak hours, verifying cash drops and discount voids, and performing beverage inventory counts. Supervisors work with systems like Micros Simphony, Oracle Hospitality OPERA Cloud, Infrasys Cloud POS, Agilysys InfoGenesis, as well as Deputy, 7shifts, Fourth, and BirchStreet Systems.
Only 20% of the shift matches the guest-facing dining room supervision that people envision. The remaining 80% is operational grind: standing on your feet for 8 to 12 hours, resolving POS billing errors, counting bottles during stocktakes, hand-polishing glassware during rushes, deep-cleaning service stations, and mediating disputes between kitchen runners and waitstaff. Shifts are irregular and include early breakfast setups starting at 05:30, closing shifts ending at 02:00, split shifts, and mandatory weekend and public holiday rosters.
