What does the day look like?
During an 8-hour shift in a 4-star or 5-star hotel, you are assigned a daily quota of 14 to 18 guest rooms. Cleaning a checkout room takes roughly 25 to 35 minutes, while stayover service takes 15 to 20 minutes. About 10% of the day goes to the morning briefing, collecting the master keycard, and stocking the housekeeping trolley with linens, amenities, and cleaning agents. Around 70% of the shift is direct physical labour: stripping soiled bedding, remaking beds with hospital corners, scrubbing showers, baths, and toilets, dusting, vacuuming, mopping tiles, and restocking toiletries.
Another 15% of the day involves evening turndown service—refreshing towels, drawing blackout curtains, and adjusting room lighting—or scheduled deep cleaning. The remaining 5% is spent logging repair requests into Opera Cloud Mobile or HotSOS, registering lost-and-found items, and updating room statuses. Shifts rotate across 5 workdays per week: morning (07:00 or 08:00 to 15:30 or 16:30), evening (15:00 to 23:30), and night shift (23:00 to 07:30).
