What does the day look like?
Days run in the studio on daytime office hours, usually 40 to 50 hours per week. Around collection deadlines for London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks the load rises to 60 hours per week. Unpaid extra hours and weekend work during sample development and runway preparation are routine.
You draw vector flats, line sheets, and colourways in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, simulate garments in CLO 3D or Browzwear, and write tech packs with measurements, bill of materials, stitch types, and tolerance tables in Centric PLM or Lectra Fashion PLM. You measure swatches, track sample shipments, catalogue trims, handle vendor emails, pin and measure on live models next to a senior pattern maker, and log pattern corrections. About 15% of the day is sketching and mood boarding, the other 85% is spec writing, swatch organisation, vendor emails, and production tracking.
