What does the day look like?
You work 40 to 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in an office. There is no shift or night work, but peak seasons bring overtime and travel to mills and factories abroad.
About 15% of the day is the attractive part: touching fabrics, checking sketches, fittings on models. About 85% is technical office work: writing and revising tech packs (POM, stitch types, grading tolerances, trim placement), BOM and costing in Excel (fabric yield, trim, freight, CMT), measuring proto, fit and SMS samples against drawings, writing to factories about defects, yarn delays and lab dips, approving colour, shrinkage and wash-fastness under D65 lightbox. Daily tools are Centric PLM, Adobe Illustrator, CLO 3D or Browzwear, Gerber Accumark, SAP Apparel and Footwear, measuring tape, GSM cutter and lightbox.
