What does the day look like?
40% to 50% of your day is sample logistics: you collect clothes from PR showrooms such as Karla Otto, KCD and Lucien Pagès, carry them in IKEA Frakta bags, check call-out sheets and serial numbers, and return them by DHL and FedEx. 20% to 25% is prep: steaming with a Propress or Jiffy vertical steamer, ironing, de-bobbling, taping designer shoe soles with masking tape. 15% to 20% is on set: with a styling kit — bulldog clips, clothespins, Topstick tape, lint rollers, sewing kits, static guard — you clip garments tight behind the model, change models fast between looks, and log credits with brand, price and showroom contact. 10% to 15% is moodboards, pull letters, receipts in Excel/Google Sheets, and work in InDesign, Photoshop, Milanote, Canva and Capture One.
The glamorous part is 5% to 10%: choosing outfits and parties. The rest, 90% to 95%, is carrying 20 kg bags across the metro, steaming for hours in a windowless studio, wiping makeup off borrowed collars. A prep day runs 8 to 9 hours, 09:00 to 18:00. A shoot day runs 12 to 16 hours, with call times at 05:00 or 06:00. During Fashion Week in Paris, Milan, London and New York in September/October and February/March, assistants work 14 to 18 hours daily, 7 days a week, on continuous call.
