What does the day look like?
The day divides into talent scouting and production administration. Daily tasks include tracking unsigned artists via Chartmetric, Soundcharts, Spotify for Artists, Apple Music for Artists, and TikTok Creative Center. You audition demos and inspect stem files using Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live, manage track pitching via DISCO, review split sheets on Session Studio, and share files through Dropbox or Box Enterprise. You also book recording studios, negotiate producer fees, handle purchase orders, track sample clearances, and inspect final masters.
The glamorous side—hanging out in VIP lounges, discovering stars at concerts, and directing luxury studio sessions—takes only 15% to 20% of your working hours. The remaining 80% to 85% is spent on spreadsheets, contract paperwork, ISRC metadata checks, and corporate meetings. Standard office hours run from 10:00 to 18:00, but scouting club showcases and attending overnight studio sessions (often 20:00 to 04:00) routinely add 20 to 30 hours per week of night and weekend work.
