What does the day look like?
You run a residential home for older people. Your day covers walkarounds, rostering across shifts, recruitment and supervision, medication governance with the nursing lead, safeguarding referrals, care-plan audits, occupancy and fee management, catering and maintenance oversight, liaison with doctors and local authorities, and preparation for inspection.
You work in rostering tools, electronic care-planning systems such as Person Centred Software, incident and audit trackers, and standard office software for budgets and reports. Direct contact with residents is a small share of the day. The large share is staffing, paperwork, budget control, and inspection readiness. Contracted hours are 39 to 41 per week, with evenings, weekends, and bank holidays on shifts. On-call cover outside rostered hours is normal, including night accountability for the building.
