What does the day look like?
Your day is spent at a computer workstation. About 60 percent of your time goes into active 2D CAD drafting and 3D BIM modeling using Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft Archicad, Nemetschek Allplan, or Tekla Structures. You translate architectural redlines and engineering markups into working drawings, prepare structural and MEP detailing sheets, and generate bills of materials.
The remaining time is split between cross-referencing building standards and verifying dimensions (20 percent), handling file exports in IFC/DWG/PDF formats and updating sheet registers (15 percent), and attending internal coordination meetings (5 percent). Work typically runs 38 to 40 hours per week in an office or hybrid setup. Shift work and night on-calls do not exist, though overtime can occur near project tender deadlines.
