What does the day look like?
Around 45% of your time is spent on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and 3D structural modeling using tools like ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, CSI Bridge, SCAD Office, LIRA-SAPR, STAAD.Pro, Robot Structural Analysis, IDEA StatiCa, Mathcad, and Tedds to analyze dead loads, live loads, seismic forces, and wind actions under design codes.
Another 25% involves BIM coordination, drawing reviews, and detailing in Autodesk Revit, Tekla Structures, and AutoCAD. Writing formal structural calculation reports and code compliance notes for building control or checking engineers takes 15% of your day. The remaining time is split between site inspections before concrete pours (10%) and coordinating grids with architects and MEP engineers (5%). The job is standard office desk work (37.5 to 45 hours per week) with regular daytime hours (08:30–17:30 or 09:00–18:00) and no routine shift or night work.
