What does the day look like?
You spend 40% to 50% of the day writing reports inside Sectra PACS, GE Centricity RIS/PACS, Agfa Enterprise Imaging or Philips Vue PACS: you review plain film, screening mammograms, CT colonography and neuro / spine MRI, dictate through Nuance Dragon Medical One or Philips SpeechMagic, and sign the definitive report alone. Around that you set protocols on Siemens Healthineers Magnetom MRI and GE Revolution CT under the ALARA principle, run Philips Azurion fluoroscopy and Hologic Selenia Dimensions mammography, do ultrasound-guided breast biopsies, joint injections, barium studies and hysterosalpingography, join the weekly MDT tumour board, and run audit, research and teaching. Pushing scanner buttons is 0% to 10%, invasive procedures and clinical consultations are 15% to 20%, MDT boards, audit, research and governance are 15% to 20%, education and supervision are 10% to 15%.
The week is 37.5 hours in the United Kingdom and 38 to 40 hours in Australia. The job plan is 10 PAs, each PA 3.75 hours: 7.5 to 8.0 clinical PAs and 2.0 to 2.5 SPA time. Usual hours are 08:00 to 17:00 or 08:30 to 17:30, with evening on-call and weekend reporting sessions for trauma and emergency red-dot reporting.
