What does the day look like?
Your routine centers on writing kinematic algorithms and device drivers in C++17, C++20, and Python. You build ROS 2 Humble or Iron communication nodes, run rigid-body physics simulations in Gazebo, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, or Webots, and calibrate LiDAR and depth cameras. Work follows a standard 38 to 40 hours per week schedule, Monday through Friday, with virtually 0% night shifts.
Only about 20% of your time is the glamorous part of watching physical robots operate in a lab. The remaining 80% is spent debugging compilation errors, fixing dropped middleware messages, cleaning noisy sensor data, writing technical documentation, and running repetitive unit tests.
