What does the day look like?
You film and code training sessions and matches, tag events against the club's code window, cut clips for individual players and units, build the pre-match opposition report with the head analyst, deliver post-match review packs to the manager within hours of full time, maintain the season database, and present short video meetings to players. The named tools are Hudl Wyscout, covering more than 1000 competitions worldwide, Hudl Sportscode or Nacsport for coding, Hudl Studio for telestration, STATSports or Catapult GPS for physical data, and Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for dashboards and decks. Some clubs add StatsBomb or SkillCorner tracking data and Tableau or Power BI.
The glamorous part, standing next to the manager and picking the team, is 20% of the day at most; around 80% is solitary coding, clipping, database hygiene, and re-cutting the same sequences to different lengths for different audiences. Hours follow the fixture list, not an office rota: evenings, weekends, bank holidays, travel to away games and training camps, and night work after late kick-offs. In O*NET data for SOC 27-2022.00, 50% of workers usually work more than 40 hours per week. The day after a match is routinely a 12-hour day in first-team environments.
