What does the day look like?
You spend little of the job sitting in a stadium watching a star. Most days are travel to lower-league and youth fixtures, evenings and weekends included, logging player ratings against the club position profile during the match. After that comes video review on Wyscout, Hudl Sportscode, Hudl Instat and Sportradar databases, cutting clips, writing structured reports on technical, tactical, physical and psychological notes in the club template, updating spreadsheets, a personal database and the club recruitment board, presenting targets at recruitment meetings, checking references through coaches and former clubs, and covering the assigned age group or territory such as domestic academy fixtures or 1 foreign league.
At data companies such as Stats Perform, Sportradar and Hudl the work is tagging events, validating data and building recruitment models and shortlists for client clubs. Hours are irregular by design, with peak load on match evenings, weekends and tournament windows and quieter midweeks for write-ups. There is no night-shift system, but availability on match nights is the job.
