What does the day look like?
Contracted hours are 40 hours per week, with no hospital shift work or bedside night shifts. Visiting clinics, inspecting facilities, and consulting physicians take up 30% to 50% of the working time. The remaining 50% to 70% is desk work: handling travel logistics, detailed audit reporting, resolving data queries, tracking safety reporting, and filing regulatory records.
Key on-site tasks include evaluating hospital equipment and pharmacy storage, training clinical teams on protocols and safety rules, auditing informed consent forms, conducting source data verification, and counting investigational drugs. You work with specialized software including Medidata Rave EDC, Oracle InForm, Veeva Vault EDC, Veeva Vault CTMS, Oracle Siebel CTMS, Veeva Vault eTMF, and Suvoda. Travel is demanding: 50% to 70% travel away from home is standard for field-based monitors, involving early flights, intercity trains, hotel stays, and strict deadlines requiring Monitoring Visit Reports (MVRs) within 5 to 10 business days of each visit.
