What does the day look like?
Between 30% and 45% of your working hours are spent teaching in the classroom — typically 18 to 22 periods (45 to 60 minutes each) per week delivering IGCSE, A-Level, IB Diploma Programme, AP, or national curricula. Instructional leadership takes up 25% to 35% of your time, including observing lessons, coaching early-career teachers, and moderating assessments. The remaining time goes to grading, logging student data into systems like SIMS, ManageBac, PowerSchool, Compass, or Kundalik/eMaktab, preparing inspection evidence for bodies like Ofsted or KHDA, and running pastoral duties.
Standard hours run Monday through Friday from 07:30 or 08:00 to 16:00 or 17:00 (37.5 to 45 hours weekly). There are no night shifts or on-call duties, but exam moderation windows in May/June and November/December require an extra 5 to 10 hours per week of evening and weekend grading.
